Pluto in Capricorn and How You Can Interpret That in Your Chart.

Dear Deirdre,
I am curious about the significance of Pluto changing signs but remaining in the same house. For example, Pluto in Saggitarius has been transiting my first house since 1997-98, and will remain there for many years to come but now in the sign of Capricorn. What can one
expect with that?
Thanks for considering this.

Dear Valerie
When Pluto transits through the first house, I think this parallels a great wish for self transformation.
It may have been that abundance and prosperity (Sagittarius) were accomplished in the last years, and now may not interest you as deeply. It may be that you are much more into very basic, practical spiritual issues in your life.
I find that the solar chart makes a lot of sense to use with this Pluto ingress. For you as a Leo, this means we put Leo where the ascendant is and that means that Pluto was going through your solar 5th since 1995. This would be a coming to terms with your inner child and creativity, like a complete breakdown, maybe there was no creativity for a while, and then it rose from the ashes.
Now Pluto is going into your solar 6th house, which is the house of your day-to-day life. This calls you to be determined to find a life - work - home - health - balance. Pluto often creates an extreme pulling in one area and it is our work to balance drama energy.
Because Pluto is going into Capricorn, you can look at the ruler of Capricorn, which is Saturn, to see how Saturn plays out in your personal chart. Saturn is conjunct your natal Pallas, indicating that sacred knowledge may play a role in your life more and more as you get older.
I also think this is true because Pluto will be conjuncting your natal Vesta in 2010. You probably have been feeling this coming on, but I think this is about your life becoming completely aligned with your spiritual path in every way: from the way you are in your body, to what you wear, to how you move, to what friends you have, to who you want in your life to what you eat etc. This is very thorough.
This is what I see in your chart, does it ring true for you?
Nice to hear from you,
Deirdre

Playing Taps for Pluto in Sagittarius

I thought that rocket travel was going to be mainstream by the time Pluto left Sagittarius, other than that, I will say my fanatic prayers one last time, put my ragged passport collection under my pillow and say goodbye to the old era of Pluto in Sagittarius ready with respect for dawn.

Pluto and Piracy

In the last few months, mainstream news has been reporting on the increase of piracy on the Arabian Sea. Astrologically I think this speaks to the cusp of Sagittarius (expansive adventure), Capricorn (class structure) and the crossing of Pluto (expression of shadow material) between the two.

My concept of pirates was originally a mythical one, based on Dick Deadeye, from Gilbert & Sullivan's musical, HMS Pinafore. Hearing of the reality of pirates seizing oil tankers in 2008 is as attention grabbing as if mermaids would form an international union as sex workers, the similarity being mythical characters using full power on a massive scale, creating fundamental change in our reality.

Currently, the largest ship ever captured by pirates is still held as highjacked near The Horn of Africa. Viewed from a non-political map, The Horn of Africa neatly fits the geography of The Arabian Peninsula; the disparity of wealth unevenly distributed is not noticeable. But now, the International Maritime Bureau has issued an alert to all sea traffic off the Horn of Africa. "Heavily armed pirates are subjecting vessels to violent attacks while in international waters," they warn.

This largest ship ever captured by pirates is called Sirius Star. Astrologers who follow fixed stars associate Sirius as the Sun of the Sun, as it is the largest and most brilliant star in the sky. The meaning of Sirius has spanned a broad range of delineations, just as a powerful leader can be projected as a hero and villain. One of the most modern delineations of Sirius is The Higher Self.

As reported by the BBC, one of the Somali pirates on board the Sirius Star tanker, goes by the name Daybad, which may have a meaning in another language, but in English the negative connotation of Bad Day comes to mind, which fits my mythical image of pirate naming, like Deadeye. Although it is not confirmed if Daybad is one person or a collective voice, Daybad spoke to the BBC Somali Service from a telephone on Sirius Star. The BBC reported:

"Daybad said the pirates were fully aware of the consequences of their actions, but the lack of peace in Somalia and the plunder of its waters by foreign fishing trawlers had driven them to piracy."

The voice of Daybad in this quote sounds human, rational and able to conjure some compassion -- not a "Higher Self" voice exactly, though one with a broad perspective. But when we think that these frustrated fisherman have just seized a vessel larger than an aircraft carrier with two million barrels of crude oil on board, the scale of danger is expansive beyond what we know (Sagittarius), has effected major industry (Capricorn) and will change (Pluto) how commerce is organized forever.

As Pluto passes through Capricorn during the next 16 years, this example, Sagittarian chaos, piracy and the effect on world business and power, will continue to surface in the news as the issues get sorted (I prey humanitarily). When Pluto gets to the midpoint of Capricorn, Pluto will oppose the fixed star, Sirius. This is like a mega mega Sun - Pluto opposition and reminds us to own our power and no less (also no more). Plagiarism, piracy and pickpocketing, all Plutonian and involve the using of others resources, will become less attractive occupations because in a Capricorn-dominated environment, piracies will gain pirates less power, like a defense shooting a goal for the other team.
............
P.S
But where do mermaids come into the picture you may ask from paragraph two? It started with my thinking about exaggerated gender differences, how a mermaid expresses the power of a woman's beauty, sexuality and vulnerablity. While the pirates and the tanker owners are sorting themselves out, perhaps sexworkers world-wide will create a Pluto in Capricorn organization, not like OPEC, but more like Greenpeace, to preserve their resources once and for all and forever.

Pluto in Capricorn: "Have no fear of ths mess," said the Cat in the Hat

Dear Deirdre
Pluto changes signs at the end of November... and I'm curious as to what's in store for me. I know it will affect me, deeply, over the next 15 years. What should I expect? I fear the worst.
Thanks,
R.
________________

Dear R., I know what you mean. You didn't give me any birth information so I am interpreting your question as the voice of the collective. Do you know the book The Cat in the Hat? I think this book describes the kind of trouble which can occur when Pluto is traveling across the Gemini - Sagittarian axis.

Two kids, a brother and a sister, (Gemini) are at home in their environment doing absolutely nothing. In a great spontaneous burst (Sagittarius) a cat messes up the entire house. The articulate, family pet is the most upset about the chaos (Virgo, which squares Sagittarius). The Cat, an exotic Jupitarian figure who is exaggeratedly into everything, magically has the good luck to also get out of trouble at the last minute, just before the authority enters (Pluto in Capricorn).

My point is the messes we find in our world now are not serving their purpose anymore and this is a natural cycle. Pluto in Sagittarius has taught us chaos was fun up until a certain point. The fish in the Cat in the Hat had some good advice as he spoke to Pluto leaving Sagittarius :

"Now look what you did!" Said the fish to the cat. "Now look at this house! Look at this! Look at that! You sank our toy ship, Sank it deep in the cake. You shook up our house And you bent our new rake. You SHOULD NOT be here When our mother is not. You get out of this house!" Said the fish in the pot.

So lets see what kind of cosmic help we have to clean up OUR mess. We have had Saturn in Virgo monitoring the transition team. This is the fish saying clean it up. We all have it somewhere and it is simple, just clean it up, whether it is clutter or junk food or lazy habits or wasting resources, clean it up.

Jupiter is making a trine TODAY to Saturn. This is the day to make a plan to purify our cosmic hygiene. And if we don't feel like changing, there will be SIX eclipses under our collective butt in 2009. Jupiter will be in Aquarius for all of 2009. Our tolerance, respect and cooperation for and with each other will be not only in fashion, but also easier to do than usual.

If you as an individual know what you want to clean up and can't, your luck will be finding an organization to help you. For example, if you know your mess is substance abuse, you can turn to AA. There is a solution for all messes. Saturn in Virgo will oversee problems and assign to Jupiter in Aquarius community organizations, that's the high road in the fear.
So, R., this is what I think will happen, that we will find the initiative to be our own authorities, and that will be scary until we do it, and then it will be liberating (Pluto is heading for Aquarius after Capricorn, although this is a generation away). If you have no mess, then maybe you know someone who does and you can help. With Pluto in Capricorn there is power in knowing the cosmic rules which will basically remind us we need each other.

I need you and you need me (I hope),
So thanks for writing,
Deirdre

Collective Pain: Chrion in Aquarius, and Aquariuses Feelin It Hard

Dear Deirdre,
You had seen in my chart an up-coming challenging time, and it is now here. It is so difficult, especially exactly now — even my neck is hurting me, of course probably psychosomatic. would you please give me a little hope? That would help me a lot.
Thanks,
Aquarius
...............................................................................
.....

Dear Aquarius
Glad you wrote to me. I will first tell you what is going on in general for everyone, because it is very intense and I think you are feeling it, especially because of your career. And then I will tell you what I see in your chart now and in the near future.

The Cosmos in General. Our cosmos is currently going through a great change. We are feeling this with increasing intensity, especially this month. I do not think you are alone in your pain, many of us are feeling this desperateness, like a last gasp — a feeling of a last chance at whatever it is we want. A significant 13-year cycle is ending. I think you are very sensitive and you feel this.

Two very slow-moving, era-defining planets, Uranus and Pluto, are about to make significant moves, and this occurs at the end of this month. Uranus is your ruling planet, it is the ruler of Aquarius, and this planet will go forward on November 27. This can feel like you have been longing for some progress in your life, and you will get it, like a tsunami pounding a prepared and willing coastline. Also on November 27, Pluto will change signs and move from Sagittarius to Capricorn where it will stay until 2023. Pluto has been in the sign of Sagittarius since 1995. This was an era which focused on celebrities and making a big deal of nothingness and I believe this new era will focus on what makes our lives really work — I mean what really feeds our souls. You have been reporting on celebrities during this peak time to be doing so and that was lucky to be there on the top of the wave.

You may find that business management, and I mean real business management, not criminal business management will be the new focus. Either management or a kind of spirituality or art which can inspire human beings to reach their potential, these areas will replace our society’s recent obsession with lifestyles of the rich and famous. You may find that interviewing a visionary CEO of a really healthy company or an article on Buddhism will eventually generate the interest and sales that Paris Hilton used to. I believe this difficult feeling you have now has to do with growing pains because you are adjusting to this new age.

Now, until a little after New Years. I see your chart is not very cozy at the moment (Saturn -Uranus opposition squaring Mars in Sagittarius in the 5th), and I am really sorry. Normally you have a huge capacity for fun and this is blocked in the moment — only temporarily — this is not forever. But, this is unusual. Normally you can turn on you easy going self, but now for a short while this easy going self is not easy going.

I think to turn this non-fun energy around, the answer is disciplined fun and I will give you a bad example. Lets say you decide to write a joke book. You have the discipline to write one joke every 12 hours, if you like. Or if you are really stressed out, then every six hours. You could become, in this sour mood, a joke expert, simply from the discipline. You could emerge from the end of 2008, a Humeur Savant, but it will have been very painful. I am not sure what you want to create, I just said a joke book, but it could also be a screenplay about the misery in your life, but with dry black humor. Or this could be a travel book too, you will know best, but I am talking about a way of going deeper into the pain, and not falling into a black hole because of the creative act which keeps us sane.

2009, Starting January. This coming year, 2009, year you will find much pleasantness in (and I say this because his progresssed Moon will be conjunct his 9th house Venus in Aries)

  • foreign travel to someplace further and homier than usual
  • someplace where the food attracts you,
  • in creating a home in a foreign place,
  • in being invited to others homes for dinners,
  • in going out to dinner in large groups,
  • in improving or learning a foreign language by taking a class
I also encourage you to immerse yourself in thoughts larger than yourself, like philosophy, art, astrology, or politics. Your ambition will take you to all of these places where you are sure to be surrounded with beauty, and what you define as luxury.

This year you have quite an opportunity for a new project or new possibility in your day job which is filled with good luck and can expand your life in a way you thought not possible (Neptune, Chiron and Jupiter conjuncting natal Sun in the 6th). I think if you spend a lot of time in another country it will also be good to find a chiropractor or healer there. With the pain you are in, you are very open to healing energy. You will know the right healer when you see him or her, and maybe it is the one you already have. The healer I imagine could be younger than you, from a different cultural background, uses a technique which you find fascinating and when you meet that healer, it will be like you see a Blitz, like the room or the floor can turn white for a second. This healer could lead you to the root of your pain, to get to the very heart of the matter. This will be done in a very jovial way, in the spirit of optimism with an intelligent kind of a humor. And strangely, this healer will need you as much as you need the healer.

You may want to write down your dreams and go deep into your subconscious mind. What you discover could be very inspiring indeed. I think going into your subconscious mind will help lead you to what you want to do in a couple of years.

Hang in there, Aquarius, our society needs you and the work you do and will be doing. The world wants what you have to offer.

Yours,
Deirdre

Six Eclipses in 2009

There will be six eclipses in 2009, and that's more than usual. An average year has four. But it fits doesn't it, this feeling of a new era, so of course there are more eclipses to boost the change. The first two eclipses will happen on January 26 (6° Aquarius), just as Jupiter enters Aquarius, and February 9,(20° Leo) just after the second pass of Saturn opposed Uranus. The next three eclipses will be July 7 (15° Capricorn), and then a Total Solar Eclipse (29° Cancer) will pass over China, where the earthquake was last year. The third Eclipse of Summer in the Northern hemisphere will be August 6, (13° Aquarius). The final eclipse happens just before the year ends on New Years Eve (10° 'Cancer).

This year the Leo - Aquarius as well as the Cancer - Capricorn axes are highlighted. Those of us with personal planets in those signs will do well to welcome the new and throw out the old for a fresh new change.

North Node Lesson In Aquarius: We Are One

With a dramatic U.S. presidential campaign behind us, feels like a new era can now begin, and it will. In astrology, eras are defined by slow-moving far away planets, like Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. These planets are now arranging themselves in a 90° triangle, the Saturn-Uranus hypotenuse will be crowned by Pluto. The lesson to take with us is we are all connected, we are one, we can work together.

Astrological eras are connected by the shift of the Nodes of the Moon, because where the Nodes are, so are eclipses, and with eclipses, history changes. Currently the North Node is in Aquarius, which can be described as a “We the People” consciousness. We, many of us on Earth, not just in the U.S., watched the U.S. election. There was severe division and strong opinions, but we were all doing the same thing, being politically aware. The election was magnetic. Nodes can be described as magnetic, like a fate which pulls us there like a magnet. Find the North Node in your chart. Notice what sign it is in and in which house it is to get some insight on what may be magnetic in your life. And if you are an Aquarius, you may attest, a lot has been happening in your life in the last few years, and it has not been easy to explain.

To further accent Aquarius, its rulers, Saturn and Uranus are in an opposition to each other. I think for Aquarians this is like having your parents fight or like feeling torn in yourself. For us as a collective its like generation gaps being more noticeable than usual, and the contrast of Conservative versus Liberal playing out in families and groups where this didn’t used to be an issue. The first of the five exact oppositions happened on the U.S. election day. There will be four more passes of the opposition until Summer, July 26, 2010.

This summer, on July 27, 2009, the magnetizing North Node will change signs and enter Capricorn. Whereas the planets move forward through the zodiac, the Nodes move backward. This means that the North Node will enter Capricorn at 29°. Pluto will be waiting on the front step at 1°. They will conjunct in two years at 4° Capricorn on November 27, 2010. As well that year, there will also be a partial lunar eclipse at 4° Capricorn on June 26.

A Lunar Eclipse is a Sun - Moon opposition. This opposition will form a grand square with the last Saturn - Uranus opposition. An image I get for this is like when you wring out a wet towel, and you twist each side in opposite directions, to exert the most pressure on the fabric, to use the fabric’s own resources from it’s our structure, to squeeze itself out. Picture this with cash flow, with how large companies and bureaucracies are organized, and with how we use each others resources. And picture this with how fathers and mothers use their power in families. This is why the image to hold in our minds is we are all one.

The North Node will stay in Capricorn for a about a year and a half until February 2011. Having North Node and Pluto in Capricorn at the same time will bring us to our knees around leading and guarding wealth selfishly. With steadfast determination we will be magnetically drawn toward our own inner leadership, self management and sense of faith. We will strive to be our own wise parents. To give you an idea of the North Node in Capricorn and an expression of that, the Dalai Lama, who preaches Love, Compassion and Kindness was born during an opposition while Pluto was in Cancer, and the North Node was in Capricorn. I close this post with a quote from the Dalai Lama on universal responsibility:

"The need for simple human-to-human relationships is becoming increasingly urgent . . . Today the world is smaller and more interdependent. One nation's problems can no longer be solved by itself completely. Thus, without a sense of universal responsibility, our very survival becomes threatened. Basically, universal responsibility is feeling for other people's suffering just as we feel our own. It is the realization that even our enemy is entirely motivated by the quest for happiness. We must recognize that all beings want the same thing that we want. This is the way to achieve a true understanding, unfettered by artificial consideration."

Sign by Sign guide to the Neptune Station

Early Sunday morning in Europe, and late Saturday night in California, Neptune at 21° Aquarius, will station forward, which may bring a great outpouring of some kind and could flow into the next days or weeks. Look at your chart to see where you have Aquarius to get an idea of the way this can happen. The impact will be more or less intense, depending on the gestalt of your chart and current transits. When Neptune stations, we can have the feeling of being suspended in an altered reality and it's important to direct this and stay aware. Whether we are swept away in tragic romance, practicing extraordinary devotion or in severe pain and looking for escape, here is a sign by sign guide for the current Neptunian change happening now:

ARIES. You may question where you belong and where you are going in your life. This is something big to wonder about so take care of mental and physical health, serve the desperate in the most real ways possible. Some daredevils go over the waterfall blinded in a barrel to find they risked the place in society of which they had dreamed. Putting off pleasure now may be the easiest way to fulfill your responsibilities and lead you to the solid ground with a soft and measured landing.

TAURUS. You may feel either quite inspired or confused by how your career is going and how it may continue to be. Check in with yourself and see if you have any ego invested in this. Once removed, you may find that you are getting joy out of serving, if serving you really are. You may also experiment with letting go of the drama that romance is special. Imagine romance being so not special, almost in the way that communism glorifies the worker and the group. This non-sensationalism will keep your heart open to love that stays.

GEMINI. You may feel your dreams don't stop even when you wake up. Or you may be on a long journey looking for the meaning of life. The allure to submerge yourself in the spirit of the information can be great, but make sure to hold on to the farm because back home could be where you are really needed. Fear not, a small altar can make a divine and inspired person.

CANCER. People in your life may seem so intense right now, that you may want to escape in the comfort of mystical experience and feel completely in tune with the concept that we are all one, both the dead and the living. One necessity of life on this side is dealing with money, so make sure that the intense people around you are being upright in monetary matters. You may feel contracts are not necessary or too much work, but a simple piece of white paper with black letters printed on it may save you from self deception.

LEO. You may feel the turn in your relationships. Are the people in your life relating to you with divine motivation and inspiration? Could it be that people important to you could bring you down in their fall? Even if you are a rock star, concentrate on your humble job and imagine you are attaching the bumper on a hybrid car to be distributed in carpooling lotteries. A risk-aversive attitude in relationships may be your rescue and allow you to open the curtains and the front door to let the sun shine in.

VIRGO. You may be wishing you could control your day more because the map to your destination seems filled with obstacles and delays — and partners keep surprising. It can be that the obstacles are advising you to live more like a dog: take naps all day, lick people, run after a ball, tell everyone you are hungry and wag your tail a lot. Everyone will pet you until you forget what a map is and the obstacles will become smaller than fleas and then disappear.

LIBRA. Be careful around love punch parties and those who think they have everything under control. If a creative dream feels like it is sinking into quicksand, a retreat in the quiet of solitude could be soothing and beneficial to you. When your nerves are quieted you may have the strength to drive pilings into the Earth, and revive the dream.

SCORPIO. The secure dream you long for could be making you tired and moody. There might be something confusing at home. Plan a spiritual kind of Thanksgiving meal — maybe vegetarian or foods typical of your early childhood. Invite only people who understand and support your current goals in life. The common loyalty may give you energy to continue with the dream.

SAGITTARIUS. A deluge of ideas, a change of concept, confusion with siblings or a discussion with a neighbor over the hedge may leave you wondering. Something may feel secretive and obscure. You may be hesitant to speak at all and feel unsure of what to say. Hang in there, it has been a heavy ride and it will be getting lighter. A visit to a museum near where you live surely holds at least one object in which you can lose your current heavy self and remember how goofy you used to be and still are.

CAPRICORN. You may feel unsure of how you are earning your money and the more you look the more unclear it can get. You may be meeting conservative, well-dressed people who also don't know how they earn money either, and you may all work at the same place. Wading steadily in the mysterious paper work may let you fit more time in your day, and time they say, is money.

AQUARIUS. The way you come off to people may be different than you think. You may feel as if you are gentle, refined and reasonable but your partner may experience you as Niagara Falls. Ask them if this is true. Say,"Am I coming on too strong?" Then notice their reaction. If there is any panic, veer away from rebellious reflex. Instead, take precious and serious care to let go of your ego in the negotiation.

PISCES. It may be very very quiet right now. The Neptune station happens in your solar and very hidden and Piscean 12th house. This quiet is necessary so you can hear the confident voice you have always known you have had and which you can use in a subtle range of ways. A rocked boat resets to steady with the love and gentleness you direct toward yourself and relationships.
